PBIS
Positive Behavior Interventions & Support (PBIS) is an approach for supporting students to be successful in schools. PBIS supports all students through interventions ranging from a school-wide system to a system for developing individualized plans for specific students. Here at Pleasanton Middle School we use:
- PBIS Banner. These positively stated rules are important, because research has shown that recognizing students for following the rules has a greater impact than catching them breaking the rules.
- The Behavior Matrix below identifies specific behavioral expectations across all school settings. Research has shown that recognizing students for engaging in expected behavior is even more important than catching students breaking the rules. At Pleasanton Middle School we use PRIDE to acknowledge students for appropriate behavior. School staff send an email to the families praising the student for the character of PRIDE the student exemplified.
- Some students may need an additional intervention therefore, Pleasanton Middle School uses a consistent and fair discipline procedure that is crucial to a successful consequence system. This system focuses on teaching, remediation, restorative practices, and/or logical consequences as much as possible (i.e. if a student breaks a window they work it off in restitution, etc.). Below you will find the Behavior Matrix showing the process and procedure teachers and administrators follow to assure equitable discipline of Pleasanton Middle School students.
