Principal's Message

From the Principal

  August, 2019

Dear Panther Student/ Parents/Guardians:

The first day of school is almost here. As we prepare for Monday, August 12,  I wanted to extend a “welcome back” message to all of our students and parents. The staff has been back preparing for the first day of school and are excited to meet your children.

I am very excited to be the principal of PMS this year. Dr. Jill Butler did an incredible job, and I am honored to follow her in supporting our staff to make PMS a great place for students to learn and grow. I would like to extend a special “welcome” to our new students, parents, and families. Whether you are a sixth grader or new to our PMS community, we are very glad to have you here. Please stop and introduce yourself to me should you ever see me around campus or the community. I would like an opportunity to welcome you in person if at all possible.

Bell Schedule

To view our daily bell schedule and other school information, you can always visit our school website. For Monday, school starts at 8:35 am (A period starts at 7:35). I recommend students come early on the first day of school. All students and parents can log into the Q Parent Portal to view students schedules. We had to make several changes to some students’ schedules since walk-through registration. All parents/students should confirm their schedules Sunday before the first day.

Pride Time – New this Year!

If you did not hear last Spring, PMS will have “Pride Time” on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Pride Time (PT) is a flexible teaching and learning time for our staff and students. Reteaching, enrichment/extensions, re-do’s, and workshops are among the different activities and options that students may participate in. Teachers may call students in for “mandatorials” for mandatory tutorials. If not, students will have the opportunity to sign up for an “open tutorials.” For more information on Pride Time, take a look at this FAQ document for Parents/Guardians/Students.

Parents on campus on 1st Day

Once the bell rings at 8:35 am, we ask that all parents exit campus. Staff will direct all non-staff adults to exit. Please understand if you are asked to exit. We need to ensure the safety of our students/campus and ensure that we have an environment that maximizes learning.

Traffic Drop-Off & Pick-Up

Safety of our students, staff, and parents is my number one priority during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-ups. As you prepare for drop-off and pick-ups, please

follow the directions of staff members, be courteous to other drivers, and stay off your cell phones. Safety comes first!

For more information on drop-off/pick-ups, please view this information on our Panther website.

Back to School Night

I would like to invite all of our parents/guardians to attend our Back to School Night on Thursday, August 22, at 6:10 pm. This will be great night to meet your child’s teachers and get a sneak peek at what they will learn this year.

Thank you again for your continued support of Pleasanton Middle School. We never take for granted the immense levels of support that we receive from our community. We are very proud of our school and the environment that students, staff, and parents have created here together.

Sincerely,

Joe Nguyen
